Rick Buist, President of Burlington-based Bioroof Systems, has been designing, installing and manufacturing green roofs in the Ontario marketplace for nearly a decade. He has been involved in more than 100 green roof projects across North America, including the award-winning Ottawa War Museum, the Manitoba Hydro Building (Winnipeg) and Covenant House (Toronto). He currently sits on the Board of Directors of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities, the North America industry association and Chairs the Corporate Members Committee.

Toronto's Green Roof By-Law: On May 26, 2009 Toronto became the first city in North America to adopt a bylaw to require and govern the construction of green roofs on new development. The bylaw will apply to all new building permit applications made after January 31, 2010 (residential, commercial and institutional) and January 31, 2011 for all new industrial development.
